Tripura CM Biplab Deb compares CPI-M to ‘ghost’, says they never die

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, on Sunday, likened the CPI-M and its Tribal wing - the Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) to a ‘ghost’, stating that they never die.

"If you think that CPI-M is finished, then you are wrong; because ghosts never die," Deb said while addressing an election rally at Manughat in Dhalai district on March 21.

The election rally was organised to garner support for the BJP candidates vying for the Manu and Chamanu-Chailengta seats in the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) election in the state.

Cautioning his party men, Deb asked BJP workers and supporters to be alert and not to assume that the CPI-M has lost its significance.

“The party Karyakartas, be it Pristha Pramukh or state-level leaders, should not think that the CPI-M has lost its existence in the state. They must remember that the ghosts never die," the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister came down heavily on the Left Front, accusing the previous government of not holding a proper budget for the District Council.

The Left Front was in power in the state, as well as the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) for a long time but, there was no development for the people living in the ADC areas, Deb said.

“The Left government didn’t have an adequate budget for the ADC. But, our government brought additional budget for the all-round growth of the ADC areas,” Deb said.

"If we think CPI-M and GMP are finished then, the black day will again come to the ADC," the CM added.

Reacting to the statement made by the CM, CPI-M state committee member Pabitra Kar took Deb's statement on a positive note stating, "Yes, CPI-M is not finished."

He said that three months back during a public meeting at Ambasa, the Chief Minister had claimed that the CPI-M is nowhere to be found in Tripura.

"But after three months, he (CM) admitted that CPI-M is not finished. In Tripura, there is no village or habitat where CPI-M has no public support," Kar said.

In the last assembly election, the BJP and Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) defeated the CPIM-led Left Front by only 7 per cent of votes, he stated.

"Now people have understood what is what and, they are again coming to the Left Brigade," Kar added while alleging the BJP of trying to capture votes by using their "goons" and the help of the administration.
