Tripura becomes a focal point of discussion during PM Modi’s rally in West Bengal

With the West Bengal elections around the corner, Tripura seems to have gained prominence regarding several political and social issues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a political rally in West Bengal on Sunday, mentioned Tripura several times and highlighted the progressive change made in the state during the BJP tenure.

Drawing comparisons between both the states, the PM said, “What does Parivartan (change) mean is being experienced in the neighbouring state Tripura. Like West Bengal, Leftists spelt doom in Tripura for long years.People of Tripura ousted Leftists from power and relied on BJP.”

The PM further stated that despite the BJP party being new in the region, they could win the trust of the people of Tripura.

Meanwhile, taking a dig at the BJP for the current situation in Tripura, former CM Manik Sarkar criticised the ruling government of ruining the system of the state in the last 34 months of governance.

The political veteran also attacked the BJP for the political turmoil in the state and mentioned that the state under the Left government was much better.

Likewise, Mamata Banerjee, who is holding consecutive rallies across West Bengal, also criticised the BJP for the situation in Tripura.

The BJP, which came to power in Tripura in 2018, won 36 seats in the 60-member assembly, making the state free of the Left bastion.

Before that, the CPI-M had ruled the state for 25 years since 1993.

With an eye on the Bengal elections, the BJP has made Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb the star campaigner.

Meanwhile, political analysts say the issue of Tripura was never raised in the West Bengal polls before.The issue of West Bengal was also raised earlier in the Tripura assembly polls.
