Tripura bags best performing state for implementing PMAY-U

Tripura was declared the best performing state for implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) scheme in the North-Eastern Region, according to a letter sent on December 27.

The Union Ministry of Housing Affairs announced the award in a letter sent to Chief Minister (CM) of Tripura Biplap Kumar Deb.

Tripura was selected as the ‘Best Performing State’, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) was selected as ‘Best Performing Municipal Corporation’ and Belonia as the ‘Best Performing Municipal Council’, according to a letter sent by Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri.

The award will be given to the state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via videoconference on January 1 2021, during which the PM will also inaugurate the ‘Light House Project’ (LHP).

The ‘Light House Project’ is a one of a kind project under which 1000 cost-effective, sustainable and climate resilient flats are to be built across Tripura.

The project is a part of the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘housing for all by 2022’, and LHP is currently being implemented in Agartala (Tripura), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Rajkot (Gujarat), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).
