AGARTALA:

Tripura Police detained three contractors from Agartala on Wednesday for allegedly smuggling money to militants and recovered Rs 15 lakh wrapped in newspaper.

Last month, three workers were abducted by militants from Ganganagar of Gandachhara subdivision in Dhalai District.

Allegedly, the militants are trying to collect money from the construction agencies and contractors.

Police identified the three contractors as Amit Bhowmik, Sumon Majumder and Arjun Debnath.

They were on their way to Raisabari in Gandachhara sub-division from Agartala.

After an initial round of questioning, police arrested another man identified as Ranjit.

Police suspect Ranjit of being an extremist collaborator who worked as a middleman.

Ranjit was also supposed to receive the money from the contractors.
