Sacked teachers in Tripura call for indefinite strike

AGARTALA: About 10323 sacked teachers in Tripura started a mass demonstration for an indefinite period in Agartala from December 7.

The previous government recruited the 10323 teachers during the regime of former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

The teachers who were sacked because of faulty recruitment policy by the Supreme Court on March 31, were earlier, promised recruitment by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) under the new employment policy.

Members of three organisations of the 10323 teachers had met the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on October 2.

“The Chief Minister had promised to solve the issue within two months. But two months have passed, so we had to start a movement,” said the teachers.

“We will not believe words anymore. The head of the state government will have to come to this demonstration and promise in writing that all of us would be provided jobs,” said one of the sacked members Dalia Das.

Reportedly, the agitation was also joined by the family members of the sacked teachers.
