One arrested for extortion in Tripura

AGARTALA:

Tripura Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with extortion cases perpetrated in the name of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

The police have identified the arrested individual as Hiranmoy Tripura of Raisabari Manyakumar Para.

According to police, two cases were recently filed at Gandacherra and Raishyabari police station about the extortion calls made by NLFT to some local businessmen and government employees.

The people who received such calls included Rangchak Tripura, Engineer of Raishyabari RD Block, and Bikram Saha, Brick Kiln, owner of GNC.

Police said the detainee called two people from Raishyabari using two different SIM cards.

Meanwhile, the Gandachara sub-divisional court had ordered for the accused to be sent to Gandachara jail.

Police identified the detainee using advanced technology and are confident of tracking down more of the people involved in such crimes.
