LJP Tripura state president arrested for "duping" people

Tripura State President of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Rupam Kar, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly cheating people in the name of allotment of foreign liquor shops, jobs and duping them of Rs 60 lakh.

Kar, a resident of Bordowali in West Tripura, has been arrested in connection with Case no 212WAG 2020 u/s 468/471 IPC dated December 18, 2020.

Crime Branch team led by Supervising Officer (Deputy Superintendent of Police - Dy SP) Ajay Kumar Das conducted raids at Kar's house in Bardowali.

They arrested the accused behind Bordowali High School and seized items used by him to create fake foreign liquor licenses, petrol pump allotment, job offer letters, etc.

The items include forged public documents, rubber stamps of government officers, ONGC and Indian Oil, computer, printer, etc.

The case was lodged by the Superintendent of Excise, Sabyasachi Singh against one Tapan Saha of North Badharghat for submitting fake documents.

However, during the preliminary investigation, the accused revealed that he was cheated by Rupam Kar.

"The LJP leader is being interrogated to find out the whole racket and names of the other accused," police said.

The Dy SP said the accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday, and police remand would be sought.
