Left supporters of Tripura pledge to stand with agitating farmers

Farmers have been on the streets in various states for more than a month demanding the withdrawal of three agricultural bills and one electricity bill.

Supporters of the Left Front in Tripura on Friday took an oath to stand with the agitating farmers who are protesting against the three farm laws in the country.

The oath was taken at a programme held in Agartala under the aegis of the All India Kishan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC).

Similar programmes are also being held in 50 other places in Tripura.

Left supporters including lawyers, teachers, employees, professors, artists, writers, intellectuals, workers, peoples from different sections of the society, formed a long line from Paradise Chowmuhani to Kaman Chowmuhani area in Agartala to take the oath.

“We are expressing our solidarity towards the farmers of India through the programme. The All India Krishak Sabha (AIKS) Tripura unit has also requested people to reject services of the Jio network and surrender subscriptions to extend moral support to the protests of farmers,” AIKS state secretary Pabitra Kar said.

“A resolution has been passed by the farmers’ organisations that the cess counters owned by Ambanis and Adanis would be boycotted,'' Pabitra Kar added.

The AIKS leaders had already surrendered their Jio connections and switched over to other networks to wage moral support towards the protestors.

“I would like to request all the citizens of Tripura to surrender (their) Jio Sim cards,” he said.

The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, were passed in the Rajya Sabha by voice vote on September 20 amid the uproar.
