AGARTALA: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has intensified its demand for a separate state or ‘Tipraland,’ ahead of the Autonomous District Council election.

IPFT spokesperson Shukla Charan Noatia said that the long march by the indigenous people started from Golaghati area, on January 17, and had already passed Dhanpur in Sepahijala district in five days.

He also said that several people from indigenous groups had joined the long march in demand for a separate state.

Although an ally of the BJP, the IPFT has been demanding a separate state since 2009.

The ADC elections will be held before May 17, 2021, as directed by the Tripura High Court.

The upcoming ADC elections will witness a battle between the IPFT and BJP.

They could not hold The ACD elections in 2020 because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
