AGARTALA:

Tripura Police arrested four National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadres from Takarjala in Sepahijala district on Tuesday.

Two pistols, two magazines, 17 bullets, four SIM cards, cash and NLFT extortion notices were recovered from the cadres.

Police identified the cadres as Lalthang Reang (38), from Bhandarima of Kanchanpur, Jiban Reang (38) from Khedachhara, Ganaram Reang aka Ganga/Baileng from Anandabazar and Singhamani Reang.

They later took the suspects to NCC police station.

Militant activity in Tripura has increased in the past year. BSF Inspector General (IG) Sushanta Kumar Nath had admitted the matter a few days ago in a press conference.

"Because of the lockdown, many youths are stepping into terrorism, especially after losing their jobs," Director-General of police V.S. Yadav said.

Last month, suspected militants abducted three workers from Ganganagar in Dhalai district.
