AGARTALA:

Former Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) Member of Parliament and Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) president, Jitendra Chowdhury on Saturday appealed to boycott Jio products, to express solidarity with the farmers' movement.

“We appeal to the people of Tripura to stop buying Jio sim cards or any product from Jio,” he said.

After farmers called for ‘mass-boycott’ of Adani (Gautam Adani's multinational company) and Reliance products (Mukesh Ambani) including Jio sim cards, the opposition CPI-M also came forward to express its solidarity.

“Earlier Jio has given free service to the public, that was the reason other service providers have left the race. And now Jio is charging whatever they want,” Chowdhury said.

“Corporates are looting the public money and, the government is helping them in this pandemic situation,” he alleged.

“The Modi government is determined to destroy the democracy of India. Since the last 17 days, the farmers are on the road protesting against the three farm bills and one power bill, but the Prime Minister is paying no heed to the farmers’ voices," he added.
