AGARTALA:

The Communist Party of India (CPIM), on January 19, gheraoed the Police Headquarters at Agartala to protest against repeated attacks on its party members in recent times.

CPI-M members assembled in front of the headquarters and started the demonstration, which lasted for almost one and a half hour, after which the police swung into action to disperse the crowd.

On January 18, CPI-M MLAs, led by opposition leader Manik Sarkar, went to meet the Governor and sought his intervention in the matter.

The party alleged that the miscreants who were involved in the attack are backed by the saffron party members, and they wanted them to be arrested at the earliest.

They also alleged that the police have so far been reluctant in taking any action against the attackers, so they resorted to the protest in front of the Police Headquarters(PHQ).

Meanwhile, Tripura’s Rajya Sabha member, Jharna Das Baidya, has filed a complaint letter to the vice president and ex officio chairman of Rajya Sabha M. Venkaiah Naidu in the matter.
