AGARTALA:

With District Council elections just around the corners in Tripura, political clashes and skirmishes have been reported from several places across the State.

On Friday evening, a clash, between supporters of the BJP and the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT), was reported at Maniram Bari village in South Tripura District.

Reportedly, the clash erupted after the local BJP supporters broke the 'seat-sharing agreement'.

Both the parties had earlier agreed to support IPFT candidate Dhananjoy Tripura in the ADC election from the Bhurathali constituency.

But the same did not go down well with the BJP supporters. They later chose Rocky Victor to contest from the constituency as an independent candidate.

Sources said that Victor had called a campaign meeting at Shiv Charan Tripura's house in Moniram Bari village, on Friday.

This was not received well by the IPFT party supporters, who headed to the meeting venue and allegedly attacked the BJP supporters.

Reportedly, about 15 people, all from the BJP party, sustained injuries from the clash.

Around three bikes were set ablaze and, many more bikes were vandalised.

One BJP supporter, identified as Tapas Baidya, was referred to Gomati District Hospital in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the BJP party has filed a case against the attackers.

The police and huge Tripura State Rifles (TSR) forces have also been deployed in the areas.

Several political clashes have been reported between supporters of various political groups ahead of the ADC elections.

Earlier, a skirmish was reported between supporters of the IPFT and TIPRA in Takarjala.
