BSF-BGB friendly football tournament to mark Bangladesh's 50 yrs of Independence

The Border Security Force (BSF) would organise a football tournament with their counterpart Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) to mark the celebration of 50 years of Bangladesh's Independence.
According to Inspector General of the BSF Tripura frontier, Sushanta Nath, the relations between India’s BSF and Bangladesh’s BGB have seen a significant improvement owing to collaborative programmes such as Maitree cycle rallies and other similar programmes.
Maitree (Friendly) Football Match Series will be inaugurated on March 18 at Belonia of Tripura.
There will be a six-match series. They will hold other football matches in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and West Bengal.
The football series is going to be organised as part of the ongoing celebration of 50 years of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, in which BSF played a key role in the attainment of Independence.
Nath said it would increase the relation between the two border guards.
He also informed that the long-standing impasse over erecting Single Row Fencing (SRF) in select bordering patches is also coming to an amicable solution.
“There are altogether 15 patches where the BSF requires clearance from the BGB to erect fences as the structures fall within 150 yards of the international borders. The BGB has given its clearance for three particular stretches and, we hope the BGB will soon clear the pending requests also,” he added.
Nath attributed these developments to the programmes running between both forces at regular intervals.
He said 40 kilometres stretch is left unfenced, which is being covered with composite fencing.
