75 per cent health workers vaccinated in first phase in Tripura

The second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive in Tripura will start from February 6, where nearly 90 thousand people will be vaccinated.

It was informed that 60 thousand security personnel, municipal workers, cleaners, employees of the Revenue department and Civil Defence volunteers have been identified for the second phase of immunisation drive.

The Tripura government had also included working journalists in the list of COVID warriors set to avail the vaccines in the second phase.

Tripura National Health Mission (NHM) Director Dr Siddhartha Jaiswal said that they have collected the names of journalists across the state.

He informed that the list of journalists will be approved by the health ministry before their names are uploaded.

Dr Jaiswal further said that there have been no side-effects among those who have taken the shots in the state, adding that initially there was a misunderstanding but the same was resolved.

"The COVID vaccination drive is satisfactory in the state. Till now, 75.04 per cent health workers have been vaccinated in the state," official sources informed.

South Tripura district reported the highest percentage of vaccination where more than 86 per cent health workers were administered the vaccine, while Unokoti district registered 59 per cent, the lowest in the State.

In the first phase, the frontline workers like doctors, nurses and group D employees of the Health department were identified for the immunisation drive.

Of the total targeted 47,413 frontline workers, a total of 35726 healthcare workers have taken the shots till date which is around 75.04 per cent.

In West Tripura district, vaccination enrolment stood at 72.20 per cent.

The NHM Director informed that Tripura has received 1,66,500 vaccine shots in three phases.

"At present, the state has only 12 active COVID-19 cases showing a steady decline in the positivity rate," Dr Jaiswal said.

COVID-19 has so far claimed as many as 388 lives in Tripura.
