AGARTALA: A youth was sent to seven years imprisonment on March 2 after he was convicted by a court for raping a minor girl at Paikhola in South Tripura District. The court also slapped a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The incident occurred on March 14 last year.
Court sources said that the convict, namely, Jayanta Tripura raped the minor girl at Paikhola in Belonia Sub Division last year when her parents were away from the house.
When the victim disclosed the incident to her parents, they lodged a complaint at the local police station. On the basis of the complaint, police took a case against Jayanta and arrested him.
After long trial, the court today gave its verdict in support of the rape survivor.
"This is one of the case of speedy trial where the court gave the verdict within a year. Jayanata was found guilty in the case and was given seven years imprisonment," a lawyer said.
