Tripura may soon witness polls to civic bodies after BJP won Panchayat Election unopposed

Tripura might soon have polls to civic bodies and as per sources the notification for by- election to urban local bodies shall be shortly issued by the state government.

After the BJP-IPFT government came into power, many elected chairperson and members had resigned, making it difficult for several urban local bodies. Deserting CPI(M), local bodies from Amarpur Nagar Panchyat, Telimura Municipal Council and Khowai Municipal Council have now moved to BJP. Problems do not seem to end for local bodies are still non- functional as many of the elected chairpersons and members are not attending meetings, sources informed.

Around 96 percent of the Gram Panchayat and Panchayat Samiti seats including all the 18 Zila Parishad seats in the three tier panchayat election that was held on September, have been won unopposed by BJP.

The State Election Commission have already published the final electoral rolls. The by-election will held in mid December. Full election will be held in seven Municipal Councils- Udaipur (21 seats), Santirbazar (13 seats), Belonia(15 seats), Khowai (15 seats) and three Nagar Panchayats – Jorania Nagar(11) , Kamalpur(11), Panisagar(11). For Agartala Municipal Corporation, by-election will be held in four wards -3, 4, 35 and 47. As per draft roll there are 16,99,995 voters in 208 polling stations.
