Tripura floods: Heavy rain damages over 4000 houses

AGARTALA, August 28: The recent flood in Tripura has damaged more than 4,000 houses in three districts – West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai while assessment of crop losses have not yet been completed. The Revenue officials of the state indicated a total of 4,091 houses were damaged by flash flood of them 92 houses was totally obliterated while 537 others were severely damaged and remaining 3,472 houses were partially damaged by flood water.

In West Tripura districts that faced the wrath of River Howrah's dangerous water levels that were already past the maximum danger limits, sustained the highest loss of all and the havoc of the flood compelled the state government to re-think over the management approach.

The officials however, assured that process for payment of compensation has already been started. The families which were fully or severely damaged by flood waters would be given Rs 5,000 as immediate relief.
