Tripura: Eight injured in clash inside Gandacherra sub-divisional jail

AGARTALA, August 19: At least eight under trial prisoners injured in a clash inside Gandacherra sub-divisional jail in Dhalai district of North Tripura two days ago and one of them was shifted to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) in critical condition.

Police said the incident took place on the midnight of August 16 when eight under trial prisoners kept in a cell. Among them four Bangladeshis, two bike lifters and two are accused of a murder case. All the eight prisoners were injured.

The jail authority sent all the injured persons in Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital. The attending doctors released seven injured persons after administering first aid and considering the gravity of condition sent Shishu Ranjan Sarkar to AGMC.

Shishu Ranjan Sarkar and Subrata Sarkar were arrested on August 9 last in connection with the death of 14-year-old Karna Singh Tripura of New Bhagirath Para.

However, jail authority was failed to find out the reason of the clash among the under trial prisoners.

Meantime, the Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate has directed police to submit a detailed report on the clash after one Laxmicharan Sarkar, father of Shishu Ranjan Sarkar has blamed the jail authority for such a clash.
