AGARTALA: A member of Tripura Congress Legislature Party on Saturday placed their demand before Governor PB Acharya of bringing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his cabinet ministers under the ambit of CBI for their alleged involvement in Non Banking Financial Companies to unearth the truth. They also demanded the deposits embezzled by these companies to be returned to the customers at the earliest.
The team led by Leader of Opposition Sudip Roy Barman, during a meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhawan today, stated that the state government had provided trade licenses to these companies and almost all of them were inaugurated by the ruling party public representatives.
As evidences, the team showed a recently launched booklet having pictures of Chief Minister's presence in programmes of few of the companies.
The Congress has received complaints of Rs. 158,43,12,496 against the 117 chit fund companies submitted at a redressal cell from January 12 to February 28 respectively.
Under acute pressure from the opposition, the ruling government had registered 37 cases against a total of 24 chit fund companies. But the CBI took up only five of them because of involvement of meagre amount of deposits.
The team is likely to meet Prime Minister centering the issue shortly.
