Tripura: Centre assures financial assistance for upliftment of indigenous people

The Union Tribal Welfare minister, Sudarshan Bhagat met Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in his official residence yesterday here in Agartala and assured that the central government would assist the state government in implementing all schemes undertaken for overall development of indigenous people of the state.

Reports also stated that in order to empower the indigenous community, three Eklavya Model schools would be established in state.

Earlier in the day, minister Mewar Kumar Jamatia informed Bhagat that a proposal containing several projects on overall development of tribal with estimated expenditure of Rs 107.60 crore was sent to the centre during the financial year 2017-18. However, an amount of Rs 90.37 crore was sanctioned.

During the present fiscal year 2018-19, proposal containing various projects of Rs 151.04 crore was sent but only 52.72 crore was sanctioned out of which only 24.97 crore was released.

In the review meeting, it was also seen that the Ministry released fund as per the requirement of the state for the welfare of tribal people. Bhagat was told that three Eklavya Model schools will be established in the state to provide proper education to indigenous students. Out of total three Eklavya Model schools, one will be set up at Jampaijala.
