Tripura: 5110 illegal contraband item traders arrested
AGARTALA: A total of 5,110 people were arrested for trading contraband items and fake currency in Tripura in the last three years, a government report said.
The government report mentioned that police have arrested a total of 1567 people in the last year for their involvement in the trade of contraband items and seven having involvement in circulating fake currency notes in the state. Added to it are 1678 suspected drug traders and 7 people involved in fake currency trade who were arrested in 2014.
In 2013, 1829 contraband item traders and 22 fake currency traders were arrested. The report further stated that the police had seized contraband items worth Rs. 5,53,87,290 in the last year. In the same year, they seized fake currency amounting to Rs. 1,18,000.
The previous year, contraband items worth Rs. 4,30,67,214 and fake currency amounting to Rs. 1,64,800 were recovered.
However, in 2013, the police had seized banned drug items worth Rs. 4,03,36,461 and fake currency amounting to Rs.5,84,000.
