DIMAPUR: Additional Director, Dental (Health and Family Welfare) Dr. N. Savino revealed that Nagaland ranks the highest user of smokeless tobacco with 53 percent of males and 37 percent of females.
Dr. N. Savino revealed this during the Kohima district-level coordination committee on tobacco control on Wednesday.
Dr. Savino also said that Nagaland ranks the second highest consumer of tobacco in the country with Mizoram the highest and Goa as the least consumer of tobacco while also highlighting some important issues on National Tobacco Control Programme.
Dr. Savino also highlighted the aims and objectives of NTCP, which was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The meeting, held in connection with the violation of the main provisions of COPTA 2003 (Section IV and VI), has decided organize awareness programme for police jawans and public.
The committee also deliberated on penalties and decided to take up more raids with the judicial administration, official sources said.
