The Manipuri youth pushed out of train recently was not the first
The shocking incident in which a Manipuri boy, identified as Md Azad Khan, was pushed out of a moving train has gripped the attention of many. This however is not the first instance of alleged racial attack in which a person from Northeast had to face discrimination.
On 19th October 2014, a similar incident took place in which a Manipuri student identified as Soram Kanta (25) was pushed out of a running train allegedly by fellow passengers of the Dibrugarh- Yesvantpur Express (15902) in West Bengal. He was a computer diploma student of a college in Mangalore under Manipal University.
The attack on Khan came close after former RJD MP Pappu Yadav issued a threat that Manipuris travelling in trains via Bihar will be pulled out and sent back to their hometown. His supporters even started doing the same as they halted a number of trains in search of people from the Northeastern state of Manipur.
Numerous students from Northeast have lost their lives owing to such dastardly attacks such as being pushed out of trains. Residents of other states are not spared too.
A 25-year-old Assamese woman was also allegedly thrown out of a moving train in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh sometime in the year 2014. She was travelling to Kanpur in the sleeper coach of the Shram Shakti Express (12452) and was molested and pushed out of the train allegedly by three youths.
