State would upscale investment in sports says Meghalaya governor
SHILLONG: Backing Meghalaya's bid to host the National Games 2022, Governor V Shanmuganathan today said the state would upscale investment in sports to host mega sporting events in the future taking advantage of the success of co-hosting the 12 South Asian Games.
In his address at the first day of the Budget session, Shanmuganathan said the government will further upscale investment in the domain of sports to achieve higher visibility and meaningful outcomes, building on the positive momentum achieved.
The state successfully co-hosted the recently concluded 12th South Asian Games in which over 800 athletes and officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan Sri Lanka and India participated.
"Hosting the landmark multi-disciplinary and multinational sports extravaganza – the 12th South Asian Games- during February at Shillong was indeed a feather in the cap of my government," an elated Governor said, while admitting that hosting of the momentous international sporting event has galvanized the overall sporting scenario.
