Sports | Mizoram players assault referees and journalist at Silchar
GUWAHATI, February 15, 2018: After the final match of Captain NM Gupta Memorial Football tournament at the SM Dev Stadium, chaos broke out in Silchar on Tuesday.
Mizo footballers turned violent and assaulted referees, organizers and photo journalists.
Trouble broke out minutes after the last whistle as Army Green Bengaluru defeated the defending champions Mizoram. Alleging that referees were not impartial during officiating, players from the Mizoram team attacked the referees and assistant referees, media persons and officials.
Sources said four referees and a number of press photographers were injured in the clashes. Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta said they will take up the issue with All India Football Federation.
