Guwahati Nov 10,2017: Madhurjya Bora, a native of Nagaon district in Assam, has been selected to join the Deutches Fußbal Internat, a football academy based in Germany.
After attending a three-month training camp at Manchester Schooling Coaching Centre, in London, Madhurjya gave a trial for a spot at the prestigious DFI academy, where he was selected to train at the Bad Aibling-based football academy for three and a half years.
The Assam junior team footballer relishes meeting legends such as former German shotstopper Oliver Kahn, Manchester United legend Dennis Erwin and various players from the first and second division leagues of Germany.
Madhurjya took his early football training at Nagaon under Dulal Ahmed at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon, and was later selected for a Bengaluru-based Ozone FC academy. He also played for the Betkuchi School in the Subroto Cup.
The young footballer dreams of representing the Indian national team and play in the Bundesliga as well, some day.
Before Madhurjya, two more Assam lads had undergone training stints abroad. Shillong Lajong and India U23 forward Alen Deory had trained at Florida-based IMG Academy on a Reliance sponsorship for a few years, while nine-year-old Assam youngster Chandan Boro was recently picked by Tata Trusts, along with 35 youngsters from Northeast, to be trained for six years at the famed TSG Hoffenheim academy. In 2014, Milan Basumatry had earned a trial call from Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.
The DFI is a residential football boarding school based in Southern Bavaria, Germany. Over the past three years, more than 40 students of the German Football Board have switched to youth development centres of Bundesliga clubs. This makes DFI one of the most successful training centres in Germany.
