Social activist rejects HNLC’s offer to be interlocutor
SHILLONG: Social activist Disparsing Rani whom the proscribed HNLC had proposed to appoint as an interlocutor for its peace talks with the Government today announced his decision to reject the offer.
Addressing a press conference Rani who is also the advisor of the Seng Khasi Hima Mawsynram said that his decision to reject the HNLC offer was based on the outfit's stand against Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and its threat to blow up the Congress Bhavan in the city.
Earlier on Sunday, the HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw through a press statement had appealed to the political leaders of Khasi and Jaintia Hills to "stay united and throughout the dictatorial inefficient leader". The HNLC also warned the "tainted MLAs" who are offering their support to the Chief Minister.
"It is unfortunate that the HNLC had taken such a stand against Mukul Sangma which shows that they have ignored the responsibility which they had shouldered upon me. They have diverted from peace to politics," Rani added.
He mentioned that based on these stand of the HNLC he has decided not to accept the proposal of the outfit to be the interlocutor.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma ruled out any form of political dialogue with militant outfits and at the same time, made it clear that the intention of the government is to ensure that the cadres of all the militant outfits give up the organizations they represent and join the mainstream.
