Sikkim’s first women cricket tournament begins

GANGTOK

Sikkim's first Women’s Cricket Tournament, titled as ‘Khangchendzonga Shield’ began at Mining Ground, Rangpo from November 12.

The first match was played between Mount Sinolchu and Mount Pandim, where the latter team won the match.

In the second match that was played between Mount Kabru and Mount Simvo, the former team won.

The four teams played the match enthusiastically in the qualifying rounds that will continue till November 13, and the finals will be held, on November, 21.

Two premier officials of BCCI; Ashish Bhowmick (BCCI Chief Curator) and Dr Atul Gaikwad (England Cricket Board and BCCI Certified Master Coach) are also said to have also arrived in the State.

They will work on the pitch and groundworks, also coaching the women’s team and Level-O coaches course, respectively.

The fifteen daylong knock out stage of The Sikkim Cricket Association’s 1st two-tier Club Tournament was inaugurated, by Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Kunga Nima Lepcha at Reshithang Sports Complex Ground on October 18.

The semi-finals and finals will also be held at Mining Ground, on November 22.
