SIKKIM: Shaking off Covid gloom, SMIT reports record placement for 2021

The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), in Gangtok, has reported a record placement for the students graduating in July 2021.

One of India’s premier private and the state’s sole engineering college witnessed a great placement season, despite speculations over this year’s placement being gloomy.

Despite the recession in the economy and shrinking of human resources requirement, SMIT attracted multiple Multi-National Companies (MNCs) this year.

The companies handpicked some of the best engineering students from various branches and offered them an opportunity to be a part of the leading names in the industry.

This year top MNCs such as Microsoft, Dell, Shell, Boston Scientific, Medtronics, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, Capgemini, Keysight, Nomura Fintech, RSM Astute, L T Elevators and others conducted the recruitment drive and in the process hired many students.

According to reports, an American data management software company offered a package of Rs 24 lakhs to Arnab Biswas, a student of Computer Science & Engineering Department.

The average package this year stood at INR 5.4 LPA, and about 60 per cent of the students were placed.

The institute informed that many other companies will visit the campus for the placement, which is likely to go till June 2021.

It is important to note that SMIT has excelled over the years in terms of the quality of education, producing highly skilled engineers year after year.

The institute has been consistently ranked as a top institute in the Eastern region by various ranking surveys.
