Sikkim launches Jan Andolan Campaign on COVID-19

The Information and Public Relations Department (IPR), Government of Sikkim, launched its first school intervention to take the Jan Andolan Campaign on "COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour" to educational institutions on Wednesday.

A team from IPR department, led by the Assistant Director of the Research & Documentation Cell, Simon Subba, held the first intervention programme at Sichey Senior Secondary School.

Those in attendance included school principal Yangchuk Donka, faculty members, and over 50 students from classes 6 to 10.

While addressing the gathering, Donka expressed emphasised on the need to sensitise students on the appropriate behaviour to be adopted to stay safe from COVID-19.

She also thanked the team for the intervention and stated that the school would take the key messages from the campaign and educate the students through innovative methods.

The team also provided the students with a comprehensive presentation on "Jan Andolan: Appropriate Behaviour" which covered the three key messages of wearing masks, hand hygiene and social distancing.

Other aspects covered were the types of masks and their usage, myths and misconceptions about COVID-19, issues about stigma and food to improve immunity.

They also gave a hands-on demonstration to explain how the COVID-19 virus spreads from one person to another.

Later, COVID-19 kits comprising masks, sanitisers, gloves, a notebook and a pen, were distributed by social worker Sushma Gurung of the Sushma Organisation to the students.
