Marriage with Disabled Persons: Sikkim government to provide grant to 35 families

GANGTOK: The Social Justice and Welfare Department (Disability Section) on December 14, shortlisted 35 approved beneficiaries under the Sikkim Grant of Award for Marriage with Disabled Persons in the presence of Tshewang Gyachho Secretary, Social Justice and Welfare Department and Abinash Rai Joint Secretary-cum-Nodal Officer.

The scheme is given to persons who agree to start a family with disabled persons, benefiting a one time grant of 2 lakhs per couple.

The Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang distributed the first token for the said scheme on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2020, at Manan Kendra, Gangtok, East Sikkim.

Concerning the scheme, 35 Joint Account Demand Draft by State Bank of Sikkim were distributed to the beneficiaries.

The officials asked the beneficiaries to use the money received from the grant judiciously and informed on the provisions provided by the State Government.

Further, the married couples as beneficiaries were also asked to open up a joint account in the respective branches under the State Bank of Sikkim, since this is for the welfare of marrying the disables.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries from the four districts were thankful to the Government of Sikkim for providing such a noble scheme.
