GANGTOK:

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) celebrated its 29th foundation day recently at its party headquarters in Gangtok.

Former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling addressed the gathering and urged the members to rejuvenate the party to its former glory ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections.

“I want to leave politics, but the love for Sikkim and people is making me stay,” said Chamling.

With most of the party members joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party faces a herculean task to face the might of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party in the next elections.

“Let’s learn from our mistakes while we derive inspiration from our good work of the past,” said Chamling.

The former Chief Minister also hit at the allegations of nepotism and dictatorial style of functioning within his party.

“We are a democratic party that takes along everyone. We will work on collective leadership,” he said.

The SDF, which was defeated in the 2019 elections after ruling the state since 1994, is looking to strengthen the party and reach the common people.
