Police arrested a 57-year-old man on January 21 for sexually assaulting a minor.
The incident came to light on January 17 when the victim's father lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Temi Police Station in South Sikkim.
According to the FIR, Nar Bdr Basnett sexually assaulted the 10-year-old in a nearby jungle.
The victim’s father also stated that the accused had threatened his daughter and warned her not to tell anyone of the incident.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was related to the victim and had sexually assaulted her on three previous occasions.
“The person would lure the child by giving cash and warned her not to reveal this to anyone,” the father stated in the complaint.
Meanwhile, police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Act against the accused.
