ICAR organises training programme on cardamom farming in Sikkim

GANGTOK:

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), on March 8, organised a training programme for large cardamon farmers in Sikkim.

The programme covered all aspects of large cardamom farming, from the impact of climate change to improved practices to mitigate the effect of climatic conditions on the crop.

Experts from the ICAR, Botanical Survey of India (BSI), Central Agricultural University (CAU) and other resource persons delivered lectures and highlighted the importance of the crop concerning the Himalayan region.

They designed the programme to benefit large cardamom farmers and how they can effectively cultivate the crop.

From pest management to the application of new technology, the scientists from ICAR discussed several topics with the farmers regarding extensive cultivation of the crop.

Joint Director of ICAR, R K Avasthe, also encouraged the farmers to approach financial institutions for the much-needed support to boost farming.
