The weekend capped off with a thrilling end to the Shillong Endurance Motor Sports Challenge (SEMC) at Iew Shillong, Umtyngngar, Upper Shillong on Saturday.

November 24 saw a host of people, both from the city and the outskirts, thronging to Umtyngngar to catch their last glimpse of the motorbikes and the colourful, heavily-modified rally cars.

Even more so, the desire to see these vehicles in action is the reason for the many people on the terraces of nearby buildings and houses as well as in the hills to look down upon the dust-wielding action down below.

The event was attended by Lt Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan SM as the chief guest and several members of the MACS and the SEMC.

A member of the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society stated that he hopes that the organisation's association with the sport will create awareness on the many myths surrounding HIV/AIDS and that events like these will direct the youth of the state to "healthy behaviours".

While the various challenges took place, free eye check-ups and tests were also provided to the participants as well as the audience at the venue.

After three days of non-stop action, the participants, numbering 89 of them (out of whom, two were female drivers — Abigail K.Kamni and Phileta Syiem), slowed down their monster trucks to mark the completion of yet another successful and fun-filled challenge.
