Shillong, April 9:

As Coronavirus continues to spread, racial attacks and discriminations are also increasing day-by-day with the latest incident reported from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh.

On Wednesday evening, two ethnic students from Manipur's Senapati district and Chandel district were barred from entering a grocery store – Star market – at Vanastalipuram area in Hyderabad to replenish their inventory.

Based on their social media posts, Hyderabad police picked up the manager and the security guard of the Star Market. "We are waiting for the two victims to file a formal complaint on the matter," a police official told The North East Today over phone.

"It is very humiliating when someone call us foreigners when we are born Indian citizens. We explained to them that we are Indians, showed our Aaadhar card and identity card but they refused to recognise it. But stopping people from buying food just because of our looks is a crime against humanity," said, one of the two victims, from Manipur Senapati district.

Later, the two victims, who are pursuing engineering studies in Hyderabad, the city of pearls, bought their essential commodities from another store without any hiccups.

"We really don't know what was going on in their minds by preventing us from entering Star Market store. They only want to humiliate us," said the student with a heavy heart.

A similar kind incident of incident had occurred in Mysuru city on March 28, when two Nagaland students were prevented from entering More store in Chamundipuram area by the security guards who described them as foreigners because of their "oriental look".

Later, Mysuru police arrested four staff members of the More store.
