GUWAHATI: A NDFB-Songbijit militant was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Assam police commandos and CRPF's Cobra personnel at Ripu Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district of Assam on Sunday.
The security forces under the command of Kokrajhar district Superintendent of Police had launched an operation on Saturday night in a forest area, 9 kms north of Sorabil under Gossaigaon police station, said L R Bishnoi, IGP, BTAD.
The insurgent was identified as Khwmthe (Khwmthe) alias Dada (28). A 7.65 mm pistol, one magazine, four rounds of live ammunition, three fired cases and two 36-HE hand grenades were recovered from him, Bishnoi said.
NDFB-S Gossaigaon 'platoon commander' Medang narrowly escaped during the encounter, the IGP added.
