AGARTALA: Following three-day long review on the debacle of the Congress party in the recently concluded Tripura Tribal areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) polls, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, also Tripura in-charge V Narayanaswami admitted few loopholes on the part of the party that led to its fourth position in the elections.
"In the three-day visit here, I held meetings with the party leaders, office bearers at two Assembly constituencies – Surma and Pratapgarh. And I consider three primary reasons for the debacle – lack of unity among the party leaders, failure in disseminating our messages to the people in proper time and lack of sufficient time to identify candidates for the polls," Narayanaswami told the mediapersons at Congress Bhawan in Agartala on Saturday afternoon prior leaving the state.
Before the conference, he held a meeting with leaders of block and district level and candidates of ADC polls. "Our people always start a programme or campaign when the elections approach. This is one of the main reasons for not reaching our messages to the people on time," he said.
However, as a part of strengthening their movement, he added that the Congress would agitate voicing for CBI probe into the Non Banking Financial Companies' scams here at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi likely in mid-June. Replying to a question, the AICC general secretary ruled out the
allegation of having any tie with the CPI (M) in the Centre and said that the main opposition of Congress in the Centre is Bharatiya Janata Party and in Tripura, it is Left Front.
Besides, Leader of Opposition Sudip Roy Barman, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Birajit Sinha, PCC working president Asish Saha, former president Gopal Roy and others were present in the conference.
