Nagaland is all set to roll-out COVID-19 vaccine

Nagaland is all prepared to roll out the COVID-19 vaccine across the state in a phased manner starting from January 16.

The first consignment containing 26,500 doses of the vaccine reached the capital city on Thursday.

Principal Director of Health & Family Welfare, Vizolie Z Suokhrie informed that the first phase of vaccination will start at the Naga Hospital, Kohima, in the presence of CM Neiphiu Rio.

Suokhrie said, “The vaccine will be administered in two doses with 28 days apart and the maximum protection will be only after 14 days from the second dose or 42 days after the first dose.”

The vaccination drive will be divided into four phases, and during the first phase 20,000 healthcare workers will be inoculated.

The second phase will be for the frontline workers with 30,000 personnel listed in the bracket.

The third phase will be for people above 50 years, during which 3.5 lakh person will be vaccinated.

The fourth phase of the vaccination will be for people above 18 years and below 50 years with comorbidity symptoms and other health risk factors.

The principal director also added that the government is yet to decide on whether to charge anything for the remaining beneficiaries who find themselves in the third or the fourth category.
