Nagaland celebrates 58th Statehood Day

To commemorate the occasion, a bust of NPC president Dr Imkongliba Ao, by professional sculptor Sorei Keishing, was also unveiled.

KOHIMA:

The Northeastern state of Nagaland celebrated its 58th Statehood Day on at Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Tuesday.

Rich tributes were paid to the Founding Fathers of Nagaland – the leaders of the Naga Peoples’ Convention (NPC) and the martyrs who ensured the creation of Nagaland as the 16th state of the Union of India.

To commemorate the occasion, a bust of NPC president Dr Imkongliba Ao, by professional sculptor Sorei Keishing, was also unveiled.

Family members of the NPC leaders were felicitated by Nagaland Governor R.N Ravi.

Padma Bhushan awardee S.C Jamir - the sole surviving leader of the Naga Peoples’ Convention, who was also present at the event, recollected the years of struggle during which the Naga leaders under the leadership of Dr Imkongliba Ao mobilised the people under trying circumstances.
