Nagaland Assembly unanimously adopts resolution on Naga political issue

The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), on Thursday, unanimously adopted the four-point resolution on the Naga Political Issue on the fourth day of the ongoing budget session.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio introduced and moved the Assembly Resolution on the Naga Political Issue, which was unanimously passed and adopted by the August house.

“This August house appreciates the continued efforts made by the Government of the Union of India to resolve the Indo-Naga political issue through peaceful means and for acknowledging the unique history and identity of the Nagas by upholding the Naga Political Talks,” Rio said.

He further acknowledged the contributions made by the Naga political groups, political parties, civil society organisations, churches and NGOs towards finding a peaceful resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue and appeals to all to continue working towards strengthening Naga unity, and come together in the spirit of oneness for larger interest of the Naga people.

“The August House urges the Government of the Union of India and the Naga political groups to sit across the table for the conclusion of the political negotiation, that is honourable, inclusive and acceptable to the people as ‘One Solution’ without any further delay,” the resolution stated.

The NLA, on Tuesday, unanimously constituted a seven-member committee to draft a resolution on the decades-old issue.

The committee comprised members from both the ruling and opposition following a marathon discussion on the Naga Political Issue as a matter of urgent public importance on the third day of the ongoing budget session.
