Naga woman, Nigerian national held for fraud

NEW DELHI: A woman from Nagaland has been arrested along with her Nigerian boyfriend for duping several women on the pretext of marriage. The accused have been identified as Tsenyani and David Chibunna.

The duo was arrested for allegedly cheating several women by befriending them on Facebook and then ensuring that they deposit money in bank accounts.

David Chibunna, the Nigerian national, had allegedly befriended the complainant in the present case on Facebook, while claiming to be a British national named Lewis Williams. David told the woman that he would meet her in Kolkata.

"Tsenyani, the woman from Nagaland and David's accomplice, contacted the woman claiming to be a customs agent and informed her that David had been detained upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi as he was carrying 1 lakh pounds of undeclared cash along with other incriminating articles," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

Tsenyani made David speak to the woman, who was requested to help in solving the customs issue. Over the next few days, David allegedly kept asking for money for the Reserve Bank of India clearance, violations of Foreign Exchange Management Act and Customs duty. During this period, the woman deposited Rs 6.70 lakh in several bank accounts.

Soon the complainant came to know that she was being cheated. She approached the Anandapur police station in Kolkata. The Kolkata Police then contacted the Delhi Police for assistance on which probe was taken up by the Special Cell.

"The probe required surveillance of areas like Deoli-Khanpur, Munirka and Mehrauli, especially the pockets which are inhabited by a large number of African nationals," Yadav added. Multiple raids were conducted in which David and Tsenyani were detained. Interrogation revealed that they are allegedly involved in the Kolkata case. (Sources)
