TURA:

The brutal murder of a 55-year-old woman that left most of Garo Hills horrified because of the extreme nature of the crime has so far pointed to a case of personal enmity.

According to local and police sources, there were at least five armed individuals who entered the house of Jenolish Marak.

They threatened Marak’s daughter and her son-in-law and warned them against intervening as they dragged the 55-year-old woman to the courtyard.

The incident took place at Karshengdhap village under Tikrikilla PS in West Garo Hills at 11:30 pm on October 16.

While two of the gang members stood watching by the door, the other three dragged the woman outside and struck her with a weapon. The brutality of the blow severed her head from her body. She died instantly.

Police sources believe the murder to be a case of personal enmity as there was nothing stolen from the house. The perpetrators only targeted the victim. Police believe them to be Garo as they all spoke the same language when they threatened the victim’s daughter.

Family members of the victim immediately filed an FIR following the incident, and given the gruesome nature of the crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the SDPO of Raksamgre put together to investigate the crime.

The SIT, on October 18, questioned villagers and others to determine the motive behind the murder.

The family’s FIR (written by the brother of the victim) had mentioned a gunshot by the murderers. However, sources said that there were no bullet injuries on the body of the victim.

“We are putting in our efforts into cracking the case and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts. We are hopeful of a breakthrough into the murder of the woman. More details, if available during the investigation, would be provided once we complete the investigation,” the SP of WGH, Dr MGR Kumar, said.
