Mizoram to host WBCWorld Youth Title in March

AIZAWL: Mizoram Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte, on Friday, said that the state would host the WBC World Youth Title, first-ever professional boxing event, at the R. Dengthuama Indoor Stadium in Aizawl on March 6, 2021.

“This will be a first not only for the state of Mizoram but the whole of Northeast and will pave the way for promising boxers from Mizoram and the NE to enter and make a mark in the professional boxing arena both nationally and internationally,” the Director of Information and Public Relations said.

Local Cable TV LPS Vision and Grassroots Boxing Promotion & Management, Kolkata will jointly organise the event.

The main title fight will pitch rising Mizo boxer Lalrinsanga Tlau against Ghana boxer Eric Quarm.

“Since Mizoram is the first state to declare sports as an industry, the government continues its all-out effort in promoting promising sportspersons in all disciplines and affording them a steady means of income besides fame,” Royte said.

“The boxing event to be titled LPS Fight Night will showcase promising Mizo boxers, who are ready to step into the professional ring,” he added.

“Mizo boxers have a bright future ahead and that by holding the World Youth Title in Mizoram, they will be creating history for Mizoram and the Northeast,” Grassroots Boxing Promotion & Management Founder-President Pu Mujtaba Kamal said.

The boxing title event is said to be held, for the second time in India.
