Mizoram: Students, NGOs stage sit-in demonstration over coup in Myanmar

Hundreds of students and NGO leaders took part in a sit-in demonstration near Vanapa Hall in Aizawl, Mizoram, on Wednesday in protest against the recent military coup in Myanmar.

The students showed solidarity with the citizens and Mizo communities in Myanmar that faced the brunt of the coup.

“We share the sufferings and joy of our Mizo brothers and sisters in Myanmar. We will always stand for them,” Mizo Zirlai Pawl vice president Peter Chhangte said.

Chhangte urged the Mizoram government to take measures to ensure that the Mizo communities in Myanmar do not face problems in the current political situation there.

On February 1, a military coup took place in Myanmar in which state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi was detained.
