Mizoram MP C Lalrosanga expresses concern over Myanmar refugees

Mizoram Lok Sabha MP C Lalrosanga, on Tuesday, met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and expressed his concern over the well-being of refugees coming from Myanmar to Mizoram.

“Looking out for their safety and welfare is a priority,” Lalrosanga said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assured him that the matter would be dealt with cautiously.

Mizoram Rajya Sabha Member K Vanlalvena also urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to consider the plight of the protesters in Myanmar and relax its policy towards Myanmar refugees crossing over to India.

Vanlalvena informed the House that over 300 Myanmar nationals crossed the border and are currently taking shelter in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Chief Secretaries of four northeastern states bordering Myanmar to not entertain Myanmar refugees and instructed the Assam Rifles to seal the border and prevent entry.

“While the entire world is watching and waiting, India should come forward to extend its helping hand to protect Myanmar refugees,” Vanlalvena said.
