Mizoram: Four-day-old kidnapped baby rescued, woman held

Mizoram police rescued a newborn baby who was abducted from the civil hospital at Lunglei district allegedly by a 40-year-old woman around 10:30 pm on Sunday.

The police have identified the woman as Vanlalnghaki, a resident of Tlabung town in Lunglei district.

According to the police, the woman had a miscarriage at the same hospital and felt ashamed of going home without a baby and, was "apparently" compelled to abduct the newborn.

The police found the baby sleeping with the woman from her temporary residence at Farm Veng neighbourhood in Lunglei.

The woman has been booked under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
