AIZAWL:

Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia said efforts are underway to make the state an “Open Defecation Free Plus State” during a cleaning drive held between Aizawl’s Phunchawng area and Lengpui airport on January 8.

“The sense of maintaining cleanliness and orderly management of waste should be inculcated in everybody’s mind. I urged you every family, church and NGO to be part of the government’s effort to maintain a clean state,” Tawnluia said.

About 1.35 lakh kilogram of wastes are collected within the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area every day, officials said.

It was informed that the AMC operates over 156 vehicles to collect the garbage within the capital area daily.

It was estimated that over Rs 6 crore is spent every year on waste management in Aizawl.
