Assam Rifles recovers huge cache of arms in Mizoram

AIZAWL:

Foiling a major smuggling attempt, the Assam Rifles unit of Mizoram recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Champhai District on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, the Serchhip Battalion carried out an operation in Zote area and recovered three AK-56 series rifles, three empty magazines and 2,30,000 of Myanmar currency.

The Customs Department seized the arms and the recovered items for further legal proceedings.

Smuggling in Mizoram has become a major cause of concern in recent times, especially along the India-Myanmar border.
